How consultations work
From rota to written next step
A defined path for scoping the question, reviewing records, meeting with your adviser and receiving a practical note.
1. Send a short outline
Use the contact form to identify your role, the period concerned and the decision you face. Do not attach sensitive personnel records at this stage. We reply within one working day and say whether the question fits our working-time scope.
2. Confirm scope and fee
We identify the consultation, documents, delivery date and exclusions in writing. We also perform a conflict check. You decide whether to proceed; an enquiry alone creates no paid engagement.
3. Prepare the evidence
For an individual review, this normally means the employment contract, rota, actual time entries, relevant payslips and messages that instructed or acknowledged additional work. Employers send role labels rather than unnecessary employee names. Files are transferred through the method stated in the engagement email.
4. Meet your adviser
The discussion follows the working day in sequence: start, work periods, breaks, finish, rest and any weekend or night element. We then address recording, instruction, contractual treatment and the communication that needs to happen next.
5. Receive the action note
Your note records the facts used, key rules, open questions and proportionate next actions. It usually arrives within two working days of an individual consultation. Rota checks follow the delivery date in the estimate.
When another route is better
We will say promptly if the issue calls for court representation, urgent limitation advice, payroll or tax calculation, occupational-health support, or collective negotiations outside our agreed scope. A focused referral is more useful than stretching a working-time consultation beyond its proper role.
